Brand namingUpdated

A name you can own,
checked before you commit.

Brand naming is finding a name for a company or product that fits the brand, is easy to say and spell, and is free to use. I write name ideas with the reasoning behind each, narrow them to a shortlist, check domains and social handles, and run a preliminary trademark search. Final legal clearance is done by your trademark attorney.

Questions founders ask

How much does brand naming cost?

It depends on the scope: what the naming needs to cover, for how many markets and languages. After a free 30-minute call you get a fixed written proposal, so the price never changes mid-project.

How long does naming take?

Usually 2 to 4 weeks, from the brief to a checked shortlist.

Can you guarantee the name can be trademarked?

No one can guarantee that before an application is examined. I run a preliminary search to rule out obvious conflicts, and your trademark attorney does the full clearance and filing. In the US, a likelihood of confusion with an existing mark is the most common reason the USPTO refuses registration, which is why the search comes early.

What makes a name easier to trademark?

Distinctive names are the strongest: invented words, real words used in an unrelated way, and names that suggest a quality without stating it. Names that only describe what you sell are weak and are usually refused unless they become distinctive through long use.

Do I need the exact .com?

Not always. Some companies launch on a variation or another domain ending and buy the exact .com later. I check what’s available for each name so you can decide with the facts.

Can you design the logo for the new name too?

Yes. Logo design and brand identity are separate services, and many founders start the identity right after naming.
